so much

So much has been happening, so I think I must just limit myself to a list. I need to be sewing tonight, I mean, keep sewing.

1) Shawn and I decided we needed to get out of debt, school loans and all. It should take a year, if both he and I work full time. I can then go back to my business, and he can only work one day a week and take on seminary studies full time. While I was looking for a job online, an administrator from the seminary called me and asked if I wanted to work at the seminary this summer on the barcode the library project. Woah, positively providential! So, June-August, that's where I'll be.


2) Here's a photo of a recent project. I just re-covered it, that's all. Remember it Amanda? I think we found it on the Elm street in the trash.



3) Someone gave me roses. Love them! Pesticides and all.
I guess that's not so much.

4) Oh, I was going to say that I made French Onion Soup tonight. Shawn loves it. It turned out ok, I made my own beef broth for the first time, yep, going gourmet now.

So, thanks to Dor, I think I learned how to knit properly. It is so much easier to knit without twisted stitches! Check out my progress. It may not look like much, but, I am devoting more time to it now, and with the new method of knitting, I have more knitting done to show for the time spent.

Uncle Jamie

So, yesterday afternoon we had the opportunity to drive to Howell, MI (about 1.5 hours away) to visit with Uncle Jamie. He was in Lansing, MI for the INCH conference for homeschooling, he had a booth there to promote his music www.solmusic.ca

Jamie stayed with Pastor Evans, his wife Chrissy and their children, in Howell. They were very hospitable toward us, and even had invited us for dinner so we could visit with Jamie. We had a great time of fellowship with the Evans and with Uncle Jamie.


We were pleased that we got to hear some Psalms, with music arranged by Jamie that are to come out in an album in the near future. I took some videos, but I'm having trouble uploading them right now, so here are some pics for now.

knitting

Here are some photos of what I have done thus far, it's kind of hard to see the pattern in low light. It's a self-made pattern, using an irish moss stitch for the border, and diamond brocade for the main body. This blankie is for my newest nephew, ordained to be born sometime in the next month or beyond. The plan is that this pattern will look nice in his newborn photos, in black and white (below is an attempt to picture it). With advice and help from Dor I was able to find a nice durable, washable (!) wool yarn. It's from Knit Picks, superwash merino wool, in the camel heather color.

a faith building story and some Derek to go with

This family is an example of faith lived out, not valuing their own lives over faithfulness, willing to sacrifice self for others, primarily their own child. And they give the glory to God.

Why are we so faithless when it comes to these situations, acting like the mother's life has more value than the child's? They both have value, seek to save both, which is what this family did. check out these two news spots, and the husband's blog below. Why is it that when a father dies in war to save and protect his children he is called a hero, but when a mother becomes pregnant at the cost of her own health or life even, she is called foolish? Or her husband is blamed for being a jerk? God is the one who opens and closes the womb, he gives children, husbands don't. "Am I God who has withheld children from you?" getting settled

In response to Kathy's questions:

No we didn't do the painting. I believe most of it was done by Evie and Marion, two sisters and daughters of our pastor, one of whom lived in the apartment with her family prior to us. I am very thankful for it being nice already and that I don't have to lift a brush!

I am getting used to Michigan. At first the grocery store was annoying, trying to find things and them not being where I would think. But after a few trips, made without being rushed, I can get around. I really love the variety at this major grocery chain here, they have everything! They are kind of like Walmart, except more thoughtful. They have a lot of variety which includes specialty items, they carry all kinds of natural foods like you might find at a health food store, but they are scattered all through out the store instead of in one natural area. http://www.meijer.com/home.jsp

I pretty much can find my way around now. I do confess that I've taken a few long ways or detours, but I am learning.

We did get a family doctor last week, it was way easier here than in NY! When we got one there we had to go meet him and get physicals etc before he would accept us as patients. But here we had to make just one phone call. :) I don't plan on seeing him much anyway, so I don't mind not knowing him.

Sewing room photos will come, I just haven't taken them yet.

Today I am doing laundry at my friends the Eshelmans' house. I usually do projects while I'm here, such as cutting out dresses or hats or what have you, the kids really like to watch and to help by doing small jobs for me (rolling lint off or throwing scraps into the trash). But today I forgot my cutting mat. Oops. So I am forced to have time to email and blog. :D It's not sunny today, but it's warmish. I think I might take a walk.

our home

This is the entry way, if you go right you are in the living room, if you go left you are in the bedroom. As you can see we have a new MI plate that is still new and not used. :D I'm sorry to disappoint you with this link, it isn't anything, but I can't easily make it go away, so it is here. Also, apologies for the underlining on the next paragraph, same story there.The door on the right is a closet, my closet. As you see, I FINALLY hung the lovely print that my friend Jennifer gave to me.
This is home of our PC, and the door goes out to the entry way and living room.
The door on the side is my sewing room. Its really a closet. I will get photos, sometime. Directly right of my sewing room is a closet that Shawn uses, and we use for coats and things. The color in the first photo is best, I couldn't get my camera to adjust to the light from the window in the other ones.


The kitchen was being used by me when I decided I should get some shots before the sun went down. My ironing board and cutting mat get put away, sometimes. :) Here are Kathryn's two plants. I didn't kill them!! I call them Matt and Gabe. :) They were given to her when her first two babies were born and she couldn't take them when she moved.


Amanda gave me this print, she loved it very much but knew that she couldn't use it for some time. It goes well with my wine glass print that she also got me a long time ago, and with the baskets Jennifer gave me, one is hanging above the vanity (!!??) in the kitchen, it's a bit crooked.
The bathroom isn't quite this purple, thankfully. It's HUGE. The curtain from our bedroom in Albany works well with the colors in the bathroom, so it's pretending that its a shower curtain. It's not.
The big mirror made it without breaking! This mirror was harvested from our old apartment. It is so heavy I didn't know if we'd be able to find a place to hang it. We did.

Grace

This is my new friend Grace. Tomorrow we are going to crochet together along with another new friend, Crystal. Grace reminds me a lot of my dear friend Millie. Grace could have been Millie's mother, in both age and personality. I decided to knit actually. Museum

A couple of weeks ago we went to the museum with the kids while Amanda took pics of the new babies. So much to see, so little time. Addie fell asleep before we left, I was slinging her. I should have got Shawn to take a picture, though, his hands were pretty full with Josh and Em. Note Emmy's rockin' outfit, she got compliments from several people. Addie likes Uncle Shawn's beard. Joshy had a mad cow lick.

Fun times, I am going to miss them guys.

Mom and Babe

Shawn and I went to visit Darren, Laura, and Diederick last weekend. We had a lovely time, thanks again guys! Nice drive on the way to, and on the way back. We got to visit with the Pastor and his fam on the way home, had Chinese takeout, yum.

moving

So, as usual, my blog is on death's door. I thought maybe that I would take a minute to write that we are moving away from here in December. We are going to a land of sunshine and happiness, yes, that's right! Grand Rapids, MI. Right before we got married in 2004 (I was living in Canada at the time) I got a fortune cookie that said just that "you are going to a land of sunshine and happiness". All in God's providence of course. ;)

Anyway, I am not packing until the beginning of December. I have never moved a household since helping my family move to Fort Nelson in 2001. I don't miss it.

So I feel a little bad leaving our apartment, partly because it's December and I feel bad for the landlord and partly because it feels like home, I guess. I took some pictures to give to him, to maybe help get some prospective tenants interested in moving in at the beginning of January. We'll see. So I'll share them here too. I've been playing with my camera more, but am no means a pro like Amanda. So, that's my excuse for the lack of quality.

so i feel like, hmm, crap.

i have been working on advertising stuff (again!) all afternoon. i think i'm making some head way.

I cant imagine the misery of waking up every day to that. I am so glad to feel well today. Amanda, when/if you get one of these please let me know and I will try to come out and look after the kids.

3) We had a great weekend. It was so nice to fellowship with old friends. Darren, Laura, and Diederick came over for the Lord's day, after we all went to worship together in Housatonic.

4) I need to weed the flower bed. I also would like to weed the community garden a bit, it would be fun, and would be a great way to meet people in the community.

1. the conditioner thing worked, for the front of my hair. I had fluffy hair for the first time in weeks, it was kind of fun. But, the back was greasy still, not smelly greasy, but with the lard full feeling.

ok, peer pressure reigns again.

1. my hair has been disgusting for the last 5 1/2 weeks, but, no one else thinks so, or has been brave enough to tell me, or, alternatively, they might just want to see if it (the no shampoo scheme) works or not and will let me be the suffering guiney pig, so they tell me I look fine. Anyway, I tried something new today. We'll see if it works. I read today on someone or other's blog that if you wash your hair with conditioner it removes some of the grease without prompting the scalp into over production of grease as shampoo does. I hope, I hope.

2. I am to file quarterly taxes, but cant find the right form. Maybe I dont have to file them yet?

3. Been reading a lot of rare bound photocopies these days, including Defense of dissociation by the PRCE. I am seeing that it is vital to understand the definition of Church in chapter 25 of the WCF, when interpreting reformers of that era.

4. Its great to have Jody here.

5. Karl brought us a pound of coffee last night when he came to bible study. I am going to make some now. :D

These are the days in between... vacations

Today there was another troop of lookers coming to see the building. I guess that means that none of the other folks bought it. I wanted to get a long term lease signed before the ownership changes, but alas, the landlord that offered it seems inaccessible. So, hopefully the new Pharaoh will be kind to Joseph. :D

In other news I decided to take up the no shampoo challenge. I am at about a week, and getting weak, but not enough. I think washing my hair with water helps a lot, vs not washing it at all. We'll see how far I make it. My vanity, or fear of looking disgusting, may get in the way. We're going to Covifamikoi in about a week and so, I'm trying not to care, its not like anyone else does anyway. On our way there, and likely on the way back we'll stop in at Shawns parents place for a little visit.

So Jody is supposed to get here on the 17th, thats pretty exciting. We'll get tons of work done when she gets here.

Then in August we're to drive over to GR for a bit. Then when we get back I heard that Clint is coming to visit. So, this summer should prove to be eventful.

I think I'm going to make myself a cup of coffee and then get sewing some boys hats that I cut out ages ago. Wonder what happened to the dresses? Well, I got one done, and a bunch of others cut out and then realized that the pattern for the little ones needs to be modified. I dont feel like I have very much patience, or brain capacity right now, so hats will be a better choice for tonight.

I am very happy right now, peaceful, and content. I am blessed.

second try

So tonight we went to the Malt River Brewery with an old neighbour of ours. He's not old, but rather used to live in Ben and Kats old apartment. Anyway, we had a good time yakking and eating. He and Shawn got Jambalaya and I got some sort of seafood pasta with jalapenos in it. SPICY!

So I've been reading a bunch of stuff lately.


So we got labels for our clothes now. This is a nice thing as they say our company name, and fabric care/content, as well as where they were made. AND our website is on there so people get to find where the item came from and go back to get more, you know, for those who recieve them as gifts or whatever.

So tomorrow, laundry and I'm planning to make some dresses. I have no more excuses. :D The taxes are filed, books in order. I was kind of sad because I didnt know/forgot that I needed to file quarterly state taxes, even if I didnt need to pay any. So we got stuck with two $50 late fees. Oops, hopefully my negligence wont cost our company in the future.

So this is pretty random. I guess its an attempt to revive this dead blog. Maybe the next will be better and just getting started is the hardest part.

update

Amanda took a bunch more photos for us yesterday (thanks again!), sling photos. Shawn told me his idea, of me dressing in black, and having a black background, so the sling would stand out. Amanda thought it was a good idea and prolly wouldnt have been ambitious enough to try it had Shawn not put it forward. I was skeptical. In the end, Shawn was right, it was a good idea, the pictures turned out great.

So, I've been ultra busy for the last few weeks. I feel like I've hardly been home, and when I am home I've been trying to balance my household dust (the dust is the greatest battle, Ed, you were right) with getting the boys stuff ready to sell, and helping Jody get the site ready. She did a beautiful job updating the site.

So last week I cut and colored my hair (thanks mand), calm down mom, its no shorter than I've cut it in the past.

Today I will move all the stuff from my hallway that got "cleaned" out of the closet to the back storage room. I moved a shelf that the Mills gave to us, into the closet which now provides an orderly platform for all my fabric, I still need to take them out of their bags and neatly fold them, now that they have a home.

Sorry this is so boring, kind of like a "to do" list.

Oh, I have been reading some cool stuff on the Lord's days. I just read through some minutes of a General Correspondence (Shawn got these through an interlibrary loan) from 1780-18something, IN AMERICA! Very interesting times. I wrote a bunch of notes (random facts that I gathered) on it and will post them next time.

Today

So today Shawn remembered that a paper was due today, oops. So he worked on that this morning.

I got the dishes done and made a few phone calls, you know, for work.

Then I made meatballs. I hate/loathe/despise ground beef, fried, as itself. But meatballs, I can do. I've tried adding all the meatball spices and such to ground beef, but it's still gross. I never thought I was a picky person, but I am. Thank you all for bearing with me all these years as I came to that realization.

So this afternoon, after dropping Shawn off at work, I went out to Amanda's. I had a nice time driving "race cars" with Joshy. We made the "race track" with blocks. It was fun.

So, right when I got home I saw that Shawn had called from work, so I called him back. When I had dropped him off earlier, he'd said that his back was hurting, and then at about 7 when I called him, it was still hurting, and not getting any better, even after medication. So he came home early, we got a movie, and we're going to relax.

Oh ya, all my sewing is done, all the shirts, all the pants. woohoo!

Trials Galore

Just when you think that you couldnt take anymore, more happens. Its good, it kind of lets me see into the sufferings of Christ a little more. The humiliation he suffered was far greater than we could possibly suffer. That fact increases my thankfulness, as I learn a little more of what he went through on our behalf. Please pray to God for my family and brethren. Thanks.

Beef Stew

It is very cold here today, mainly because of the wind. So I am eating hot, hearty, beef stew. It is delicious. It could be better though, I didnt take much care with the beef, so there are a few grissely spots as well as some fat. EWW.

I am eating as I type, this is not a day to blog, but a day to work.

I am finishing up the pants, well, trying to finish them. I miss Jody, we work faster when we work together. I miss her because she is nice as well. :)

Um, while I've been sewing I've been listening to the Psalms, read by Scourby (yes Brian, they are yours, we will give them back when Shawn remembers, or when you want them, if I'm done with them. :) ) Anyway, Psalms, they are great. There are so many things in the trials of David, and God's people that I can identify with. It so interesting that the weakness of faith expressed is still acceptable to God, where the writer expresses things like "God where are you?" , "God wake up!", and "God have you left me?". This makes me think of Christ, not quenching the smoking flax, or breaking the bruised reed. The Psalmist always turns around, away from doubt and praises God for his/their deliverance, and for His great works.

Anyway, I love the Psalms, I love Christ, I love His law, I love His people. Why did I get kicked out of my church? Contemplating this makes me sad. I need to focus on the works of God, His mercy to me, His care for my life and well being, that He has meant it for good.

at long last

Thanks for the nagging, I mean, support. :)

So much has happened in the last few months, so much of it quite depressing and sad, that I haven't felt much like blogging, mainly for the inability to speak what was on my mind.

So sewing is still going on, ever so slowly. With all the chaos, and usual life, there have been many interruptions in progress. I am happy to say that MOST of the boy shirts are fully complete, but unhappy to say, that there are yet some unfinished, which I should be working on presently, but am blogging instead.

I just finished a very wonderful book. Its so common a title, that no doubt you've heard of it, but perhaps not yet read it, or at least not read the unabridged version. Robinson Caruso . You might say, "ya, I know its about a man being shipwrecked on a deserted island". But its so much more! Its really about his salvation, how Robin comes to saving faith in Christ alone, EXPLICITLY. It was so encouraging to read (well, in my case, hear, gotta love books on CD) about the various trials that he went through, and how he came to recognize that God in His wise and holy providence was working the trials amazingly for his own good. Robin came to bless God for it all, and to find contentment in his lot. GREAT BOOK, great reading for kids and adults alike.

Ok, and hmm, Shawn's on a break from school for a couple more weeks, so that's really nice, except that his boss wants him at work more, but he's not as stretched out for now, so that's good.

Shawn and I started reading through a very encouraging book together. Its been of great encouragement to me in my recent trial of faith, I cant recommend it highly enough.

Back to reality

So, Jody and I are frustrating ourselves with the prospect of making boys clothes. The shirts, pants and hats aren't a big deal, but the suspenders! arg. Its really hard to find nicely colored elastic in small (less than 2500 yds) quantities. The clothes are going to be super cute, I think anyway, if we persevere. Jody is sending me some prototypes to get Joshy to model, to see how they look, and if they fit well.

So that's what is up. Aside, um, not much has been happening. I started reading a book called Looking unto Jesus, by Isaac Ambrose. It's really quite good. Shawn and I read through a bit of it last year. Tony recently got a copy, and his talking about it made me want to pick it up again. The full satisfaction of Gods wrath by Christ's death, on our behalf, is really cool, cooler that his satisfying it is way better than us rotting in hell forever, as even us being there eternally wouldn't cut it, but Christ paid the price in full. The wisdom of God is great in this, to have a plan that perfectly answers, and doesn't compromise, either his justice or his mercy. Love it.

What a beautiful life being on Vacation all the time

So, today is a break, a real one, almost. My life has been so away from home for the last ever. Two weeks in Canada (a wonderful trip, cept for the stomach bug that got me on the day before coming home), then a photo shoot with Amanda, then babysitting for Amanda, then the Lord's day, then housework, then off to VT to help Laura (cute baby!), then back to another Lord's day, and now, a break. Well, it's going to be short, we're leaving to PA on Wednesday to visit Shawn's fam and some friends, we'll be gone till Monday, then hopefully I can stay home for a while and start sewing again. I have really been a slacker today, I've spent more time on the pc today than I have in weeks. Oh well, I did do some things, cleaned the fans, and the shower curtains. Maybe tonight I'll wash all of my Fiesta Ware, it's getting pretty dusty. Also, I am gluing Shawn's ball cap, I cant believe it. He just got it last October from Tony for his bday and now the boning in the top is starting to fray into a bunch of scratchy poky spikes which are unfriendly to the bald head. So, I've cut them off low and am going to try sealing them with some stinky glue, hopefully it will work.
Um, tomorrow I think we're quilting, there is a new girl at church, Gabrielle, she's gonna come along and crochet, at least until we start new quilts. I'm getting close, I just have the binding left on my old ugly thing that I've been making for the last ever.
Uh, business is great, we sold our first sling, before we're even officially selling them, so that's exciting. I'll have to post a pic when Amanda gets around to sending them to me. (hint hint)
I talked with my mom today. She's getting 3 goats and a doeling. She's so excited. We went to her and John's farm when we were in Canada. It's pretty nice, they seem to have a plan to make it work. The pigs were cute, and the horses were fat and sleek, and friendly. I dont miss cows.

God is so good to me. I am so blessed and so thankful. haha. All I have to do is think of cows, and my heart is suddenly so fully content with where I am today. :D

Delinquent

So, Ginny guilted me into posting again. All I have are the usual excuses, nothing fun to write about, I've been really busy, etc.

So today I sewed (well, all but the elastic waist)6 pairs of bloomers. That was a labor, not because I'm not normally able to make them in decent time, but because I'm sick. I have a sore throat (I blame Isaiah)that started yesterday, which was the day after I was over at the, hmm, some friends of mine's house, looking after their kids, one of whom had a bit of a cough. Ya, I know, I dont have a cough, but I still blame him. :P It is weird that when one has an illness, that they automatically start thinking of someone to attribute their contraction of it to. Anyway, my throat is very sore, and I am very whiney as a result.

So Jody has been working on our site for the last ever (just kidding, she's been busy too), and it's finally almost ready to "launch" (that sounds way more prestigious that it is, no offense Jody, it does look really nice). Anyway, so thats exciting, now if all the dresses can sell immediately before we go to Canada and then I wont have to worry about closing the store for that time, as I wont be able to ship things from afar.

Speaking of Canada, YAY! Shawn and I are going for two glorious weeks! It'll be so nice to get together with all the fam and church people there.

Oh, and speaking of Canada, Irene was here for a bit a few weeks ago. It was great to have her around, I mean, her and Tony around. :D I did actually get to visit one on one for a bit, twas nice. She's a dear girl, with a great love for God and for discussing spirituality. I haven't spent much time with her in the past, so I got to know her a bit more than before. There was so much "partying" while she was here, we were going to and fro for days straight. Ben and Kathryn had a going away party, the same day as we had a shower for Laura and her baby Deiderick, and then we had a Lord's day filled with worship and pot-thing at Ang's, and then we had a picnic bbq the next day, and then, quilting (no one quilted) with the girls Tuesday, and then prayer meeting Wednesday, and I dont recall the Thursday, but anyway, you get the picture. And then babysitting for the friends, I didnt get a rest until the 7th, and it was no rest, I had orders! Anyway, right before Irene got here my serger broke down. It's too long of a story (it involves my breaking a $50 part while trying to "fix" it, it didnt need fixing in the end). So I did get to be the chaperone with more pleasure and less guilt for not getting my sewing done. At last my machine was fixed on the 3rd and I could sew, and it was great. All orders were done as of yesterday, so I am a free man, a free sick one.

Man, that was a long messed up paragraph. Sorry folks, I feel to low to fix it. I must go elasticize some waists. Shawn should be home soon, he's bringing me pizza, I love him so much!

update

So, we went to a library sale last week. Got some great books, and some fun books. Paperbacks for 50 cents! Hardbacks for $1! yay! I got some pregnancy ones, and a great fun etiquette one, hmm, and some classics. I wanted more.

Um, sales are steady. I havent been able to put any more dresses online yet, as I've been working on custom orders for the last couple weeks. Maybe next week.

Hmm, we're planning a shower for Laura, on the 27th, her baby isnt due till July but as Kathryn and co are moving in three weeks I thought we'd best have it before they leave. We're gonna have a dress up party. So fun. :D There should be alot of ppl there, Kristie and Irene will be here then, with all the kids!

So, Shawn is working tonight. I've been working all afternoon and evening. And now, I'm going to pay bills, clean up the house, wash the dishes, and make a grocery list for tomorrow. I think I'll get groceries in the morning. I'm gonna go out to Amanda's tomorrow to have her take some pictures of the new dresses, hopefully it doesnt rain as its been forecasted.

I finished my audio book, the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Very informative, very long, pretty interesting. It helped me get some of the history in a little more order, I know I wont remember alot though. Thats a sad part of listening to books on tape, sometimes I have to think while cutting out dresses, so I missed some. I think there are the same issues with reading an actual book though, wandering thoughts.

I made a sling for Dor, its so nice, I love it, its a kind of stretchy brocade, rich chocolate brown. I'll send it soon. :D

Break time

So, we now have an official, well, not quite, but almost official business. Last week our dear sister took some pictures of our baby dresses and then posted them on a photography club/site, that she's a member of. Jody and I had so many responses we decided at once to make a make-shift site/blog to make them available ASAP. So, it worked, on Saturday we sold 23 items, some of which arent made yet (I'm working on it) So praise be to God! One day we're losers who are afraid (I should only speak for myself here) that we wont get much for the dresses, if we could sell them at all, and the next we're up to our eyeballs with work and sales. YAY!

So we did Greek again yesterday, actually got through a NEW chapter. Greg's nice to us, he says we're doing good.

So I started sewing dresses again today, finally. I’m making some with biggish patches, blues and green. I think they'll be pretty. I talked with Jody today a bit about redesigning the bodice a bit; we'll see how our experiments turn out.

I've been listening to a book on tape these days, while I wash dishes and now while I sew again, well in between sewing, mainly while cutting and ironing, I cant hear well with my machine running. Anyway, it’s called "The Decline and fall of the Roman Empire" by Edward Gibbon (the abridged version of course, the original is WAY too long). It’s supposed to be pretty accurate; I mainly became interested in reading it because Historicists of old have used Gibbons history for their interpretations of some of Revelation. It’s helpful to actually know who's who, when the Historicists make references to such and such an event. It’s pretty interesting. There was so much violence during those centuries. The Emperors had so much power, yet could be so easily taken out by the whim of his own military. Gibbon sure was down on Christianity in general. Also he said that a lot of the early martyr stories are fake, that something like only 100 Christians were killed per year over the 10 year persecution time period, unlike what the early Catholic Church had represented, they said a ton more were killed. Anyway, I don’t doubt the Church lying, relics of martyrs were one of their big interests, and snares which they set for the people. Gibbon made an interesting point of noting how many more thousands of Protestants were killed by the Catholic Church than ever by the Emperors, especially Nero, he said he got a worse rap than he deserved in modern history. That was a surpise. I wonder what else I can read to substantiate this. Anyway, bla bla bla, gotta get back to work.

Greek etc

OK, so this is must be a record, I am posting AGAIN.

Today poor Shawn stayed home from our Greek lesson at the Pastor’s because he's still sick and needed more rest before going to work this afternoon. I'm a little sick too, (oops, shouldna kissed him last week) but not as bad as he is, and I don’t have to go slave at a job, I love being a homemaker/dressmaker when I want to. :D So anyway, Greek. It was grueling, we have all been sick or Greg has been traveling, so we haven’t studied for like 6 or 7 weeks straight. Last week Edgar came over and we went through some of our vocab, not really an encouraging time. Today was more encouraging. Greg took us through a lot of the rules and all of the declensions. I thought for sure that I'd forgotten everything. But after some straining of my mind, being asked the hardest questions first, it all started coming back, bit by bit, yay. :D Shawn and I need to get studying every other day at least to get back on track, and to stay on track for that matter.

While we studied, Lonna loaded my car with a bunch of stuff for Amanda, as well as a big suitcase full of hand-me-downs from Cecelia. I didn’t have time to stay at A's since Shawn was going to work, it would have been so much more fun trying on the skirts that were way too small, and the "cat woman" boots with her to laugh with me. It would have been just like old times, Amanda, our cous Jason and I used to try on grab bags. Jason, the comedian had on over his clothes, a ladies dress, a Michael Jackson red jacket, and high heeled boots, at which time some man pulled into the drive, who Jason was to help unload something. So Jason was scrambling to the door tearing of his outfit as he ran, not wanting to be caught in such a get-up. So funny, you had to be there. Now this was a long time ago, 12 years to be exact, we were being kids because we were. :D Anyway, the lady has good taste, and I did pick out several sweaters and a jacket to keep.

EFA's

I found myself on the FAQ page of Udo Erasmus' website the other day while doing a search on google for something, I cant remember what. Anyway, I came across this section and thought it was very informative, especially the part about mothers after having several children.

Does a woman's needs for EFA's increase during pregnancy?


EFAs are required for brain development and brain function. During pregnancy, the child draws EFAs from the mother's body to build its brain, which is over 60% fat and very rich in both n-3 and n-6 EFA derivatives. The placenta contains receptors that ensure that n-3 and n-6 EFAs are transported from the mother to the baby. No such receptors are found for the non-essential monounsaturated and saturated fatty acids.

During breast feeding, the child pulls 11 grams of EFAs from the mother daily through breast milk.

During pregnancy, the child depletes women of EFAs. Each child gets less EFAs than the previous child, and each subsequent child depletes the mother further unless the mother augments her diet with essential fatty acids.

Depletion of the mother's EFA stores explains why younger children have far more developmental and behavioral problems than older children, especially in large families in which the children are born close together.

Depletion of EFAs during pregnancy also provides a rationale for why women experience far more depression, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue, and more inflammatory, autoimmune, and collagen diseases than men. Women suffer these problems from 2 to 15 times more frequently than men do. The depletion of EFAs during child bearing predisposes women to these conditions. Men are not depleted by baby brain building in the way that women are.

Well, I'm nearly recovered from "the plague" that's been going around. After Dor, Jody, and Amos left, I got what Amos had, I think. I'll spare the details. The good news is that I'm on track, ready to go, yet lacking a little ambition still. Today, after talking to Jody, I mustered enough enthusiasm to cut out some bloomers, ready to sew, sometime soon. :D I'm taking a break right now, to eat steamed broccoli with cheese and butter. Complete and balanced. :)

In other news, I cleaned Shawn's desk. For those of you that have been in our room recently, my apologies for not cleaning it sooner. He's been busy.

Shawn's been sick too, but he's good enough for work now, so that's what he's doing tonight.

We've been reading a great couple of books together, a history and a set of sermons. I think Christopher Love was a wonderful illustrator, such color can be seen, or heard rather, in his sermons.

Jody, Dor, Amos and I have been having such a wonderful time that I havent had a chance to write. Dor and Amos decided on short notice to come down for a visit, as to not miss out on the fun, and arrived last Saturday. We did lots of stuff all week, including a few stints out to Amanda's. Well today, we are all sick, cept for Amanda and Jody. Poor children, poor Dor, poor me. So Jody went with Shawn to worship and Dor, Amos and I listened to a sermon on tape, with a long intermission in the middle for much needed naps (Amos had a mild fever last night and didnt get much rest, and thus Dor didnt either. It seems he's settled in to sleeping tonight though, yay!) Our sermon was called Holiness unto the Lord, mainly about profanity, the various ways that we are profane, as Christians, without even thinking about it. Usually when one thinks of profanity and its definition, they think of swearing, and taking the Lord's name in vain, while this is truly profane, we also are profane when we dont view holy things as God does, when we use holy things vainly. It really reminds me of the shorter catechism Q. 55. What is forbidden in the third commandment?
A. The third commandment forbiddeth all profaning or abusing of anything whereby God maketh himself known. God makes himself known in so many ways, his ordinances, to start with, would be good meditation topics.

I'm a loser

At long last, a post. yay.

So Jody made it safe and sound, we're having fun, and working some. I rhymed. :)
We're trying to hash out just what it is that we need to do to start our business, there's so much to be done, and we are having a hard time figuring out where to start. Hannah came over yesterday and we brainstormed for names and looked at labeling laws and such. Fun times. We'll get back to it on Monday, I think we're done for this week.

Uh, so next week we're going to be more profitable, and we're gonna watch movies too. I found copies of some old favorites of ours, Our Mutual Friend, and Wives and Daughters. I reserved them as intra-library loans, they should be in next week, yay! Jody and I will sneak over to Amanda's and uh, quilt or something, for hours on end while we watch. Just like the good old days. :) Some may have wondered why we started quilting in the first place, wonder no more. :D

Anyway, tomorrow there is a fellowship meal after worship, so Jode and I made a cake, a good one, like Teresa G. used to make, double chocolate with the carmel/coconut broiled icing. Oh so good. I made a plain on shepherd's pie for the dinner, its good, tho boring. Bla bla bla.

Jody and I went shopping today, it was fun, we have food now. yay. Some other loser got the last dvd of the second season of 24 out of the library. So we only got food and we're still in suspense. Oh well.

Cant forget the weather, it was spring-like this am and blizzarding tonight. Pretty exciting.

Jody and I are working on a new sling design, something different, so different we need to get more fabric on Monday to make it work. I'll post if we make progress.

Last night Ed, Hannah, Tony, Shawn, Jody and I went out in the middle of the night (10pm) and played pool, well, we tried. We played a few games in teams, and then Jody and I had our game. It was wonderful, no one lost, we both won. Thats right, we shot at stripes and solids, no rules, all slop.

On the way home, after we stopped at Denny's we followed a drunk driver into Albany where Hannah called in his license plate to 911, the operator didnt seem to care much. Pretty crazy.

Anyway, this should make up for some lost posts.

The whooping cough came and went, our friends' baby had it (seems to be recovering now, praise the Lord) and because we had been holding him a few days before he'd been diagnosed, Shawn's work freaked out, along with the WHO or something like, and so he and I went on a stint of antibiotics in massive doses which lasted 5 days. It's odd that the Dr prescribed the same dose for Shawn as he did for me, as he is bit bigger than myself. Needless to say, I didn’t feel good for the duration. Shawn had a culture done the first day, which was a week ago, and we only found out today that he was negative for the plague after all. Oh well.

So while I was unwell, I was a wee bit lazy-ish. :D I read an exiting novel by John Grisham, entitled The Broker. I liked it. Also, I got hooked on the tv series 24, I managed to watch a whole season, heh.

So I got back to work finally. I made some more baby dresses, and more bloomers. Really ugly fabric turned into oh-so-cute dresses. I'll see if I can get Em to model one so I can get a pic up.

I finished the scarf I'd started in October, it turned out ok, I wish I had crocheted it, knitting takes too long. Cher I checked out magic blankets, very cool. When I'm old and have a million hours to crochet that’s what I will make, or if I get tempted to sooner. The one I saw was made of a gagillion different yarn, crocheted rectangularly around and around, using different stitches for each lap. Is that what you had in mind?

My back is killing me, I need to get a real sewing chair, and a real desk chair too. Wah, wah.

Hip hip horray! Jody is coming on January 10th, for SIX weeks. YAY! We're gonna sew a lot, and play too. I can’t wait. :D

A few weeks back Shawn and I went and saw Pride and Prejudice. It was a pretty good summary, though I do love the 6 hour version more. I was a little disappointed with Lizzy, she disrespected her terrible mother twice in this new version. In the book, and the 6 hour version, she was a perfect example of how an inferior aught to treat a superior, albeit one that is constantly dishonoring herself. Lizzy is to be admired as irreproachable in this respect. She's so smart and quick witted, love her! The cinematography was much better in the new, and a lot more realistic with respect to costumes and in the choice of actresses. In this one you do see the greater contrasts between the classes, I don’t recall if it was supposed to be there from the book, but perhaps a pretended, imagined one of the wealthy city dwellers, toward the country folk, anyways, that’s there.

I dont have much time, I must clean, clean, clean. Then I must sew, sew, sew. Tonight is quilt club and I need to have a clear conscience before I go. :) I've been cleaning closets of late and have the rubble of things laying about either looking for the trash or a new home, in my house, or someone elses. Closet cleaning is not my favorite thing, but I know to keep house is part of God's will for my life and I must do it for His glory.

Caffeine headache

So, I'm trying to quit coffee, its so hard, I love it. Shawn talked to some Dr's and nurses that he works with about caffine related miscarriages. They say it happens more often than is commonly reported. I also found some articles on Cheryl's buddy's site found here and here I guess decaf has other draw backs, I need to see if I can find an organic source processed with the "swiss water method". But thats not likely to help the headache anyway. Waawa poor me. Maybe I should have half a cup today, yesterday I think I kept the pain away by eating dark chocolate, maybe I should have another chunk.

I had a nice visit with the Shaws in GA. The weather was mild, compared to here. The kids have grown up so much since I was last there in 2001. I had fun bossing them around and getting to play chess with some of them, they're pretty good. I drank alot of coffee with Dee Dee, I got her back in the habit, oops. She sent Amanda and Josh's wedding quilt home with me, its not done yet, it should be fun to finish. :D

Um, I really should go and fold the laundry and wash the dishes, and take some drugs, or eat that chocolate.

So I'm trying to get my life back in order since we went to Corry. I feel like I have too much to do right now, and I'm leaving for Georgia on Saturday. I'll be gone for ten days, poor Shawn, hopefully he can get Tony to come over some.

Thanks for your concern and prayers. I do appreciate them much, God has heard the cries of His people, we are comforted, we are happy, we are blessed.
There are so many good things that have resulted from the death of our child. We have great reason to believe that our child's soul was carried to heaven, their sins being covered by the blood of Christ, we and our children are part of the Covenant. This is a great encouragement as a parent, our child is able to fulfill its chief end in being created as it is praising, worshipping and enjoying God perfectly forever, without the hindrance of sin and sorrow, and most likely in full maturity. Also, enjoying perfect fellowship with God's people, all the saints from all of history, my dad, my siblings and nieces or nephews that died before birth.

Ok so, I guess this is the latest blog thing. I will participate to be friendly.

1. I am cheap. The cheaper the deal, the more excited about it I am.
2. I am a lazy bum, but I do make my bed daily (woah huh Jody?). When we shared a bedroom last she would make my bed for me so that she didnt have to suffer with messiness.
3. I am a know-it-all, I think ppl like me are annoying, especially the 7 year old version.
4. I love eating porridge for breakfast. I ate it daily while growing up and hated it until I was a teenager. It reminds me of my dad.
5. I like washing dishes. My grandmother (dad's mom) used to say that you would be a loved house guest if you washed the dishes, so I did this while staying with my Aunt and Uncle a few years ago, I dont know if it worked, but I did come to like washing. Also, its way easier than drying and putting dishes away, you dont have to reorganize anything. See? Lazy. :)

So, it's getting better. I'm getting better. This has been a rough week, but a good one for my soul. I do feel encouraged and strengthened in my faith, after struggling with bitterness, with anger, with not wanting to care about anything anymore, my eyes are dry ( more of the time) and there is a song in my heart.

Shawn's working tonight. I have alot I need to do around here, mainly putting away the laundry that is sprawled all over the living room where I folded it last night, and the night before. I'll rest as well.

Tomorrow Amanda and I are going to a fabric sale. :) She needs to get a rotory mat and cutter, I guess they're going for cheap this weekend.

So, on Saturday I took a test, I thought it was negative for minute, and then! Faintly pink. Woah, I am a MOM! So for a couple days I was sortof stunned, didnt feel like it was real at all (thats why the test is still in my bathroom, so I can look at in when in doubt). But alas, it's sinking in, I've been seeking out a good diet for us, and I think I'm making some progress. Shawn and I are going shopping at an organic store this week, yay! It's amazing how fast tiredness kicks in, I've been napping regularily, and feeling like 8 hours a night isnt enough. I'm thankful that I'm not puking, yet, hopefully that doesnt start, it doesnt run in my family, so I'm hoping I'm not the exception. Anyway, I'll gladly suffer what I have to, I'm so thankful for this answer to prayer!

So in other news, I made a sling that fits. I made it for Amanda out of the same pinky/purple fabric below. Emy loves it, she slung on me for a few hours last night when I was over there for quilting night. I'll post a pic sometime soon (when Amanda sends some to me).

I havent done any other sewing all week. I started to make some long baby bloomers but made the gathering at the ruffle on the legs wrong, twice. So I need to stitch rip that again and try, try again. Not tonight though, I need to burn some sermons for the netless folks out there.

So, I finally got the boppy done yesterday, it turned out great. Also yesterday I finally made a sling, I'm happy with it as well, though I want to add some padding to the edge to keep the baby's legs from getting sore, but am having a hard time sewing it in, and at the same time making it look good, grr, hopefully I can get it done this pm. Maybe Amanda can take some pictures for me at the shower tomorrow so ya'll can see. :D

My poor Shawn was sick all day yesterday. He woke up dizzy and nauseas which led to other stomach flu symptoms. : He couldn't even watch movies, or play on the computer, it was that bad. He seems to be better today, thankfully.

So this is a lunch break, I'm eating salad with shrimp in it, yum.

I need to sew some bloomers. I finally got a pattern and some white muslin to make them from, we'll see how that goes.

Oh, Shawn (he's so nice) made me buy some really pretty fabrics that are kind of satiny, I'm to make a patchwork wrap around skirt with them.
