hurricane

My last living (we'll see) grandpa lives in the hurricane area. My mom has been trying to get a hold of him, but as expected all the phone circuits are busy. I dont think he's a Christian, so he's not ready to die. I havent seen much coverage as our TV doesnt have an antenna, so this whole thing seems totally unreal to me. I dont have many memories of him, I think the only conversation I ever had with him was when I was 13, he was asking if I had any boyfriends yet, as though more than one was a good thing. Anyway, he came and stayed with us for 6 months or so in Canada, he fed the calves with us, and then went to his room to watch the Golden Girls and drink whiskey or some sort of hard alcohol. He, like my mom, and her mom, loved animals, but seems like he especially liked chickens, maybe bc they're easier to take care of. He and my gramma got divorced years ago, he went back to where he came from so we never saw him but for the one visit.

I found this link shortly after I posted. It has ppl looking desperately for their missing family members via comments, also ppl inquiring after the state of various locations. I watched some videos here . This is such a humbling and grieving catastrophe.

Psa 46:1-11
[[To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth.]] God [is] our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; [Though] the waters thereof roar [and] be troubled, [though] the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. [There is] a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy [place] of the tabernacles of the most High. God [is] in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, [and that] right early. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The LORD of hosts [is] with us; the God of Jacob [is] our refuge. Selah.
Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I [am] God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts [is] with us; the God of Jacob [is] our refuge. Selah.

Sergers and stuff

So today, with the exception of studying greek this afternoon, was a write off, a business write off. I spent several hours trying to find out which is the best serger for me, relative to how much money I am willing to spend. It seems that a cheapo Brother brand at Walmart would suffice, but I have my eye on a few "better" brands that seem to be going cheaply on Ebay. It's so hard to know how to choose, all I have to go on is other ppl's opinions, who knows how well they formed them. So anyway, I think I was spared the bad and hasty decision of getting a White brand one from Joanne's, "just becuase it's cheap doesnt mean it works well" the reviewers reviewed. I talked with Jody for a bit today, compared notes on my serger findings to the kind she has, I dont recall it being really easy to deal with when using it, hmm, 8 or so years ago, so I dont think I'll go that route.

Tomorrow is Shawns day off again (yay) so we're gonna go pick up our new glasses and go to the fabric store among other things. I sure hope we like our new specs, its been over a month since we picked them out.

Alright, I need to do something with myself.

sermons

Alright, to all those that have sent out sermons to ppl without internet I applaud you, it takes FOREVER. But alas, I got a whack burnt, packed and ready to mail out tomorrow.

While cds burnt, I sorta planned some meals. I think it must be a good idea to plan further in advance, so I'm giving it a go.

I also ironed some clothes. Ironing is one domestical duty that I dont really like, but thats prolly bc it takes so long, bc I'm not really good at it. It's all Shawn's fault, he got two shirts, well, I guess I let him, (haha, kidding, sortof) and they are the wrinkle-in-est shirts ever, also, two pairs of scrubs, they are even worse. Well, ok I gues the blame is mine, I encouraged the purchases even, but I regret it!

So I talked with my girl Jody today, we're still working out a plan for our dress/clothing making careers. I think it's gonna be good, maybe I can sew more on Saturday?

Tomorrow is Shawn's day off. I dont know what we plan to do, hmm, aside from get groceries, and hmm, we need to get more cds as I used most of his up. Oh, also a bunch of ppl are coming over for a fun game night thingy, right, bunch of ppl? :)

Um, oh, it has been a very busy week. Ben and Kathryn moved this week, so I got to help with that, definitely one of the reasons why I dont have a job, so I can be FREE to do what I want, when I want.

Alright, I think thats enough for one post.

Gnight!

ok that was weird

I woke up from my head ache to a buzzing door. " Is Shawn there?" me being by myself am naturally not going to admit that I'm alone to a faceless male voice. " Uh, who is this?" I asked. He said " it's Jason, Shawns buddy from Wendler" By this time I'm almost awake enough to realize that he's probably friendly. Brian upstairs overheard the convo and came out to see what was up, if I needed any help. Very helpful of him. :D Anyway. After hearing that they were on their way back from Boston with a car load of books I knew they must be nice. haha. Jason jogged my memory as to who he was, " when you and shawn were courting we'd see you on the webcam". I should have corrected him, we WERENT courting, we were just friends then. Anyway, I told them that Shawn was working until 11 and asked if they were going to be in the area long, as he would be really disappointed to have missed them. They said they werent but were looking for a place to eat and then were heading out. I directed them Bombers and they were on their way.
I was so out of it. I felt rude after they left, I should have at least got Shawn on the phone for them, to see if maybe they could see him at the Hospital. Oh well.

In other news, I found an old tape of my sisters and I psalming a few years ago. Its not that bad. :D I love it.

Tomorrow is garage sale day with Amanda, she is in persuit of a couch. Today was couch window shopping day, we found some pretty nice ones. We'll see how things go tomorrow. Fun times to be sure. :D

huh

So, I'm thinking alot right now, well, trying to anyway. I just read a couple posts on my friend nate's blog about a thing that the church is into lately. Not a thing I guess, but sort of a heresy/confusion/mess. I guess the bottom line is really their understanding of the Word of God, which has affected everything else, including their view of who Christ is. I wonder what they do with the passages like:
Mat 28:20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

man, i have so much to do

and i'm posting on this blog.

So, our vacation was awesome. It was really nice to see the girls again, and the guys, and their kids. I so wish Amanda could have come, it wasnt "just like old times" without her.

We had a great time visiting with the church folks there, it was hard to have a good visit with all because there were so many people to catch up with at once. We had the biggest group to the Lords Supper yet, 40 something. It was really encouraging to sit at the table knowing that these brethren are so like minded with respect to doctrine, worship, discipline and govt, yet all very unique in personality and tastes. There were about a million kids there, most I had met in the past, time flys, kids grow.

I gotta go clean and sew, this was a lunch break, really.
